These are some reminders for users taking the CAASPP on the Mac OS.

  • Keyboard shortcuts need to be modified
  • Mission Control/Spaces needs to be turned off
  • There should be no applications running except for Finder

Make sure you are running the latest version of the Secure Browser.  AS OF March 2015: Version 7.2

To find this software, go to Spotlight and type in "CASecureBrowser" and if installed, the software will show.

To turn off Mission Control/Spaces:

1. Navigate to Apple  System Preferences.

2. In System Preferences, Select the [Keyboard] icon. The Keyboard window will be displayed.

3. Select the [Keyboard Shortcuts] tab. The Keyboard Shortcuts options will be displayed. Note: Mac 10.9 and 10.10 use the label [Shortcuts].

4. In the left panel, select “Mission Control.” The right panel will show all Mission Control options.

5. In the right panel, make sure the boxes for the following are not checked: a. “Move left a space” b. “Move right a space” c. “Switch to Desktop 1” (this may already be unchecked.)

To modify Keyboard Shortcuts:

1. Navigate to Apple  System Preferences.

2. In System Preferences, click the [Keyboard] icon. The Keyboard window will be displayed.

3. On the Keyboard preferences window, you will see an option regarding using all function keys as standard function keys. Check this option.

4. Once this option is checked, you should no longer be able to access applications by simply pressing the function keys.

5. If you need to launch iTunes or another application, press the [Fn] key and then press the desired function key. This combination will launch the application.

To close all running applications:

Use the Force Quit feature to close all applications except for Finder. From the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner, select the Force Quit option. The keyboard shortcut is Command + Option + Esc.

Then, close all programs except for Finder. Select the program to close and click the blue Force Quit button.

Some students cannot tell that there are programs open just by looking at their dock. Force Quit makes sure that all programs are closed so that the Secure Browser can open.

All of three of these steps must be followed in order for the student to open the Secure Browser and successfully log in.
